Ecology. Dry inter-Andean valleys; on trunk of trees (including Prosopis); associated in part with Fabronia ciliaris, Frullania, Lindbergia mexicana, Orthotrichum diaphanum var. podocarpi. Elevation. 2000-3100 m. Distribution. Bolivia: Chuquisaca, La Paz, Santa Cruz. World range: southwest and eastern United States, Mexico, Colombia to Bolivia (not yet recorded for Peru), Chile, Brazil; elsewhere rather widely distributed, absent in Southeast Asia.
 
Ecología. Valles secos interandinos; sobre troncos de árboles (incluyendo Prosopis); asociada parcialmente con Fabronia ciliaris, Frullania, Lindbergia mexicana, Orthotrichum diaphanum var. podocarpi. Altitud. 2000-3100 m. Distribución. Bolivia: Chuquisaca, La Paz y Santa Cruz. Distribución mundial: suroeste y este de los Estados Unidos, México, Colombia a Bolivia (aún no registrada en Perú), Chile, Brasil; muy ampliamente distribuida en otros sitios, ausente en sureste de Asia.
 
The spathulate leaves with a short hyaline to yellowish excurrent awn, costa on back short spinose, unipapillose, simple or branched, rarely bipapillose (dorsal surface) laminal cells, and smooth, ovoid or spherical gemmae present on the upper leaf surface aid to distinguish this species.
 
Las hojas espatuladas con una arista corta hialina a amarillenta excurrente, costa corta espinosa en el envés, células de la lámina unipapilosas, simple o ramificadas, rara vez bipapilosas (superficie dorsal), y yemas ovoides o esféricas, lisas presentes en la superficie superior de la hoja ayudan a distinguir esta especie.
