10a. Distichophyllum subnigricaule Broth. var. subnigricaule 黑茎黄藓原变种 hei-jing huang xain yuan bian-zhong
Philipp. J. Sci. 31: 289. 1926. Type. The Philippines: Mindanao, Zamboanga, Merrill 8324.
 
Plants small to medium-sized, in dense mats. Stems dark brown, 1–2 cm long, 2–4 mm wide with leaves. Leaves slightly contorted when dry, broadly obovate and spathulate, 1–2 mm × 0.5–0.8 mm; the leaf apices rounded to broadly obtuse, sometimes weakly apiculate; leaf borders very narrow, consisting of 1(–2) rows of thin-walled, linear cells; costa single, short, reaching only about half of the leaf length; leaf cells uniformly round-hexagonal, large, 34–45(–67) µm wide, lax, thin-walled. Perichaetial leaves small, about 0.5 mm long, broadly ovate, acute to obtuse; laminal cells mostly short rectangular. Setae papillose, 6–8 mm long; capsules not seen. Calyptrae papillose.
