Plants rather large in comparison to other species of the genus, yellowish green or dark green above, brown below, in dense mats. Stems 2.5–3.2 cm long, often irregularly branched. Leaves strongly crisped when dry, erect-spreading when moist, ovate-lanceolate, 4–6 mm × ca. 0.8 mm, keeled; margins entire, slightly recurved on one side; costae strong, percurrent or shortly excurrent; median leaf cells subquadrate or irregular, 10–20 µm wide, thick-walled; basal cells rectangular, 50–110 µm × 5–13 µm, thinner-walled. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves oblong-elliptical, slenderly acuminate to piliferous at the apex, 5–8 mm × 0.8–1.1 mm, distinctly highly sheathing and involute. Setae orange, ca. 5 mm long; capsules erect, oblong-ovoid, slightly asymmetrical, 1.7–2.3 mm × 0.8–1.0 mm; opercula conic-rostrate, with a beak 0.7–0.8 mm long; peristome teeth lanceolate, 60–70 µm wide at the base, 170–190 µm long, hyaline. Spores 50–80 µm in diameter, densely papillose.
