Recent work by Michael Moeller and his team at Edinburgh has established that the two small genera hitherto recognised in Madagascar, Colpogyne (1 sp.) and Hovanella (2 spp.) should be included in a more roadly circumscribed Streptocarpus (together with other African taxa). The 2 spp. of Hovanella were included in Didymocarpa in Fl. Madagasc. One dubious species in the Fl. Madagasc., Streptocarpus plantagineus Vatke, is still unresolved and is not treated here.
