General/Distribution: A genus of about 10 species found in Europe, Asia and America. The plants grow in wet places and are poisonous.

Perennial. Roots fibrous from a tuberous root base. Leaves compound, I-3-pinnate. Umbels terminal and lateral. Involucral bracts usually lacking. Rays numerous. Involucel of linear, minute bractlets. Flowers white. Calyx teeth minute. Fruit oval to ovoid, slightly compressed; ridges prominent, corky; furrows 1-vittate. Inner seed face plane to slightly concave.
