8. Syringa L. (lilac)

About 23 species, Europe, Asia.

Several other Syringa taxa are cultivated commonly in the United States, including S. emodi Wall. ex Royle (Himalayan lilac), S. josikaea J. Jacq. (Hungarian lilac), S. reticulata (Blume) H. Hara. (Japanese tree lilac), and some horticulturally derived interspecific hybrids. These rarely, if ever, become established outside cultivation.
