About 7 species, southern U.S. to South America, Caribbean Islands, Africa.

The flowers of Thalia are quite complex morphologically in that the showy portions consist of highly modified stamens, whereas the perianth is relatively reduced. Price and Rogers (1987) presented a detailed explanation of the morphology and pollination biology of these flowers.
