(Kral, 1960; Wilbur, 1970)

About 10 species, eastern U.S. and adjacent Canada.

Asimina is the only temperate genus in a large, otherwise tropical family. The flowers are only successfully fertilized via outcrossing, often resulting in low fruit set. The fruits are dispersed by mammals.
