Plants perennial or monocarpic, herbaceous, with a rhizome or a tuberous root. Leaves cauline and radical. Cauline leaves alternate, sessile to shortly petiolate. Flowers in spicate racemes. Sepals 5, united at the base. Corolla with 5 lobes, divided almost to the base, segments linear. Stamens 5 free. Ovary 2 or 3-loculate. Stigmas 2 or 3. Fruit capsular, dehiscing by pores.
