Notes: Vavara and its sole species V. breviflora has two stamens unequally inserted, muticous anthers and pollen grains that are “9-sulcata” (Benoist, 1962: 131). These traits strongly suggest a placement in Justicieae: “justicioids” (sensu McDade & al., 2000) (from McDade & al., 2008). This genus was not validly published by Benoist (1962). Its only described species is based on the same 3 syntypes as the previously validly published Rhinacanthus breviflorus. Work is in progress to determine if the genus Vavara needs to be validated or if it falls in the genus Rhinacanthus.
