Shrubs with thin, flat, articulate, striate and glabrous phylloclades. Leaves alternate, lanceolate, entire, often lobed at the base. Flowers sessile, bisexual, in small greenish clusters; perianth segments 5-parted, accrescent in fruit. Stamens 8. Styles 3; stigmas 3, fimbriate. Nuts triangular, smooth, covered by enlarged, deep red or purplish perianth segments.
