General/Distribution: 3 species-one in Macaronesia, one in Cyprus, and our own western Himalayan plant.
Type: Type species: Bosea yervamora L.
Comment/Acknowledgements: The three species of this genus can be readily separated on seed characters [Townsend in Kew Bull. 28: 144-145 (1973)].

Much- and frequently intricately-branched shrubs, erect or scrambling, branches and leaves alternate; branches elongate, commonly pendulous; leaves entire. Flowers small, 2-4-bracteolate, hermaphrodite or unisexual (polygamous), in axillary and terminal bracteate racemes or spikes, at least the terminal frequently paniculate. Perianth segments 5, free, equal. Stamens 5, filiform, fused and alternating with 5 short, fleshy lobes at the extreme base, giving the appearance of an interrupted hypogynous disk. Stigmas 2-3; ovary with a single suberect ovule. Fruit a berry, globose. Seed large, endosperm copious.
