General/Distribution: A small genus of about 12 species scattered throughout the tropics. One American species has been introduced in Pakistan.

Herbs with slender, glabrous or pubescent stems which are mostly repent. Leaves cordate-orbicular to reniform with long petioles small, entire. Flowers incospicuous, axillary, greenish-yellow, solitary and pedicellate. Corolla broadly campanulate, deeply 5-lobed, the lobes induplicate. Ovary bilobate, 4-ovuled, the lobes distinct or basally united. Styles 2, attached between the ovary lobes and appearing almost gynobasic. Fruit capsular or utriculate, membranous, usually 1-seeded, irregularly bivalvate or indehiscent. Seeds subglobose, smooth.
