Notes:
In addition to the spp that are known to have become naturalized, many have been introduced as ornamentals, for edible fruit or as a host of cochineal (Dactylopius coccus - a scale insect in the suborder Sternorrhyncha), including: O. aurantiaca ('Jointed Cactus'), O. cochenillifera (syn. Nopalea cochenillifera), O. exallata, O. imbricata, O. leptocaulis, O. leucotricha, O. robusta, O. ursina and O. tomentosa. There is certainly a risk that some of these may become naturalised in the future. Much confusion has existed over the correct names for the naturalised spp.
