Small annuals or perennials, tuft-forming. Stem obtusely angular. Leaves basal, short; sheaths soft, with ciliate mouth margin; ligule 0; blades narrow, thick, incurveded. Inflorescence a multiple spike; glumes spirally arranged. Flowers bisexual; stigmas 3; style constricted from ovary, base bulbous, persistent. Nut obovoid, triangular.
