Generic distribution and diversity: Ali and Robbrecht (1991) recognized Discospermum as a distinct genus and excluded it from the closely allied Diplospora. It occurs from continental Asia to the Malesian region but the exact number of species (c. 10 spp?) is still unknown since the Diplospora-Discospermum complex is not revised yet.
