Annual or biennial herbs, erect, branched mostly from the base, glabrous or hairy with simple or branched, stellate hairs. Basal leaves oblong-lanceolate, sessile; cauline leaves sagittate-amplexicaul. Racemes ebracteate, somewhat lax in fruit. Flowers small, white, cream or yellow; pedicels filiform, rigid, subspreading or ascending in fruit. Sepals not saccate at base. Petals oblong, cuneate below, C. appendaged; anthers short, blunt. Lateral nectar glands in pairs, semiannular; middle absent. Ovary elliptic, short, 8-24-ovuled; style distinct with capitate stigma. Siliculae elliptic, obovate or pyriform, broadly septate, bilocular, dehiscent; valves convex, rigid, with a distinct mid-rib, often slightly margined (winged) ; septum membranous, not veined; seeds ovoid, biseriate, mucilaginous when wet; radicle incumbent rarely accumbent.
