Notes: This species is characteriezd by its somewhat slender and often pilosulous to villosulous habit, fleshy stipules with a conical appendage on each side, shortly pedunculate, pseudoaxillary, capitate inflorescences with bracts 4--8 mm long, and fruits that become red then black, and flattened pyrenes with a dorsal ridge. The flowers are sessile or subsessile, then the fruits become separated on pedicels that may be up to ca. 5 mm long.
Distribution: Wet forests at 140-450 m, Amazonian Ecuador and northern Peru.
