A monospecific genus endemic to the Yungas montane forests of Bolivia. The sporophyte characters that distinguish Schroeterella and appear to be unique to the genus include the short seta (2-3 mm long), exostomial teeth 8-paired with acute rounded tips, and endostome represented solely by narrow cilia about 2/3 the length of the exostome. Only known from the original collection made by Herzog from the Río Tocorani valley (Department of Cochabamba). The illustration provided by Herzog (1916; plate VII) suggests that the alar cells are obliquely arranged. The generic name honors, according to Herzog, “Dr. C. Schröter, Professor de Botanik an der Eidgenöss. Technischen Hochschule in Zürich".
