Caudex woody, leaves densely rosulate, oblong-spathulate, gradually narrowing into a petiole, obtuse, mucronate. Scapes solitary, erect, terete. Inflorescence +- dichotomously branched panicle, branches long. Spikelets 1-2-flowered, subsessile, remotely scattered along the scape branches; outer bract triangular, mucronate, coriaceous; middle bract triangular, hyaline except for the nerve; inner bracts lanceolate, 3 times as long as the outer bract, narrowly scarious-margined, margin involute, aristulate. Calyx tube cylindrical, minutely pilose; limb at first sub-truncate, scarious with fine dark ribs, after anthesis limb + breaking up into linear recurved divisions.
