Notes:
This species was treated by Beusekom (1967) as a bisexual-flowered, homostylous form of his very broadly circumscribed species Gartnera vaginans. However pollination studies in Brunei indicated that these plants are not bisexual, but are functionally dioecious with the pistillate and staminate flowers almost indistinguishable. The species name means "cryptically dioecious".
