Comment/Acknowledgements: Reported from Murree hills and Kashmir as C. ligulata Nees or C. hebecarpa var. ligulate (C.B.Clarke, l.c.; R. R. Stewart, l.c.).

Tufted perennial, to 75 cm. Stem trigonous, nodose, scabrous along edges. Leaves longer than stem; basal sheaths reddish; ligule conspicuous; blades 1.5-5 (-10) mm wide, scabrous towards apex. Inflorescence of terminal male and 2-6 peduncled female spikes; bracts longer than inflorescence, sheaths long, pilose, with conspicuous, reddish-hairy auricles; female spikes cylindrical, 2-4 cm, glumes c. 1.5 mm, mucronate; utricles c. 3.5 x 1.5 mm, ellipsoid, trigonous, hispid, beak bi-dentate, c. 0.7 mm; style base bulbous. Nut ellipsoid, trigonous.
