Mesonodon contains two species with a pantropical distribution; both species are found in the Neotropics. Distinguishing features include the plicate ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate leaves, not or slightly concave, ecostate or costate and short and double, numerous alar cells, seta light yellow, prostome present, exostome teeth finely cross-striate below, smooth above, and no basal membrane.
Mesonodon contiene dos especies con distribución pantropical, ambas especies se encuentran en el Neotrópico. Sólo una especie en Bolivia: Mesonodon flavescens (Hook.) W.R. Buck. Las características que lo distinguen incluyen  hojas plegadas ovado-lanceoladas hasta lanceoladas, escasamente cóncavas o no, ecostadas o con costa  corta y doble, células alares numerosas, setas amarillas claras, prostoma presente, dientes del exostoma con finas estrías cruzadas abajo, lisos arriba y sin membrana basal.
