Plants robust, stiff, straw-colored or yellowish brown, slightly glossy. Stems slender, elongate, prostrate, with loose rhizoids, irregularly branched; branches short, straight, or slightly elongate, curved. Leaves densely arranged, mostly patent, ovate-lanceolate, narrowly acuminate; leaf margins plane, nearly entire; costae double, very short; leaf cells narrowly elongated, basal cells shorter and broader; alar cells often brownish yellow, in several rows, quadrate. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves erect, strongly sheathing at base, abruptly narrowed into a filiform apex, margins entire. Setae slender, elongate, reddish, twisted when dry; capsules erect, ovoid, brownish; exothecial cells rounded-quadrate, incrassate; opercula conic, blunt at tips; annuli not differentiated; peristome double; exostome teeth narrowly lanceolate, outer surface not cross-striate, only papillose at tips; inner surface trabeculate; endostome segments free from exostome teeth, as long as the teeth, but wider, often splitting above; basal membrane low; cilia very shorter. Spores large.
