Rhacopilopsis may be monotypic, found in both tropical America and Africa; however W. R. Buck (pers. comm.) believes that a careful review may result in the recognition of several species. The dimorphism exhibited between the larger upper median and asymmetric lateral leaves and the distinctly smaller ventral leaves, aid in the recognition of this genus.
Rhacopilopsis parece ser monoespecífico, se encuentra en América y áfrica tropical. En Bolivia y el Neotrópico está representado por Rhacopilopsis trinitensis (Müll. Hal.) E. Britton & Dixon. Esta especie se caracteriza por las hojas mediales laterales dimorfas (escasamente asimétricas, ovado- hasta oblongo-lanceoladas) e inferiores (menores y más angostas), costa ausente o bifurcada corta, pocas células alares, redondo-rectangulares.
