general taxon notes:
The genus is primarily of East Asia in distribution (Koponen 1977). It consists of three species, and all are found in China.

Plants small, medium-sized to rather large, slender, dark green to reddish brown, clustered in tufts. Stems erect, 2–5 cm high, upper stems often multi-branched, or with flagelliform branches; infertile stems attenuated toward apex; central strand well developed. Leaves crisped when dry, secund, lower leaves small, sparse; upper leaves larger, dense; stem and branch leaves more or less similar, ovate-lanceolate or oblong-elliptical, gradually acute; margins slightly or distinctly bordered by elongate cells, sharply serrate; costae thick, nearly percurrent, often with a single, double or multiple teeth at back, especially near the apex; leaf cells rounded-quadrate or rounded-hexagonal, papillose, mammillose or smooth. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves not clearly differentiated. Sporophytes terminal. Setae elongate, stout; capsules cylindrical, horizontal to slightly pendulous; opercula conic, shortly rostrate, papillose; peristome double; exostome teeth reddish brown; endostome segments lanceolate, as long as the teeth, perforate; basal membrane ca. 1/2 the height of the teeth; cilia 3, nodulose. Calyptrae cucullate. Spores spherical.
