Cat. N. Amer. Musci 44. 1880. Amblystegium serpens subsp. juratzkanum (Schimp.) Renauld & Cardot, Hedwigia 32: 351. 1893. Amblystegium juratzkanum Schimp., Syn. 693. 1860. Type: Austria. Theresiani Vindobonensis.
 
Plants small, dark green or yellowish green, in loosely caespitose mats. Stems prostrate, irregularly branched; pseudoparaphyllia small, foliose; central strand present. Stem leaves distantly foliate, ovate-triangular or ovate-lanceolate, 1.0–1.5 mm × 0.3–0.5 mm, gradually acuminate; costae slender, reaching 1/2 the leaf length; margins minutely serrulate; median leaf cells oblong-hexagonal to rhomboidal, 30–50 mm × 8–10 mm; alar cells shortly rectangular. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves elongate-lanceolate, gradually acuminate to a long apex; costae reaching leaf apex. Setae 20–30 mm long, reddish; capsules reddish brown, cylindrical; peristome typical for the genus. Spores 12–15 mm in diameter, minutely papillose.
