This species is characterized by its branch leaves with revolute leaf margins and large capsules up to 4 mm long. This species has the largest capsules among the species in Hypnum.

Plants rather robust, somewhat glossy. Stems up to 8 cm long, sparsely, but regularly pinnately branched, rarely bipinnately branched, branches ca. 1.7 cm long, gradually slender; in stem cross section epidermal layer not differentiated, three layers of cortical cells, thick-walled; central strand differentiated. Stem leaves falcate-secund, broadly ovate-lanceolate, ca. 1.7 mm × 0.6–0.9 mm, gradually acuminate, not cordate at base, plicate; margins plane, rarely revolute below, nearly entire or serrulate near the apex; costae short, double; basal leaf cells yellowish brown, alar cells not clearly differentiated, only consisting of one inflated, hyaline cell and 2–3 rows of smaller, quadrate cells near margins; branch leaves smaller, 1.0–1.5 mm × 0.4–0.6 mm; margins often revolute below; alar cells not clearly differentiated; median leaf cells linear, 40–60 µm × 2.5–3.0 µm. Dioicous. Inner perichaetial leaves lanceolate, slenderly acuminate, plicate, upper margins plane, sometimes serrulate, ecostate. Setae elongate, ca. 4.7 cm long, reddish brown; capsules yellowish brown, suberect, cylindrical, ca. 4 mm long, slightly arcuate when dry; opercula conic, shortly rostrate; annuli developed, 2–3 rows. Calyptrae not seen. Spores not seen.
