Plants rigid, dark green, yellowish green when young, in mats. Stems creeping, up to 3–4 cm long, irregularly branched; branches usually fascicular, erect, 0.5–1.0 cm long, slightly declinate when dry. Stem leaves loosely appressed on stems when dry, spreading when moist, triangularly ovate, 1.2–1.5 mm × 0.5–0.6 mm; upper margins crenate; costa thick, strong, ending below apex; branch leaves broadly ovate, involute or slightly secund when dry, spreading when moist, 1.0–1.4 mm × 0.5–0.8 mm, obtuse at apex; margins plane, usually dentate; costa ending before apex; upper and median leaf cells small, round hexagonal or rhomboid, 7–12 µm × 5–6 µm; basal leaf cells near margins subquadrate, along costa shortly rectangular. Inner perichaetial leaves lanceolate, 2–3 mm × 0.8 mm; cells linear, costa percurrent, broader below. Setae long 1.5–2.0 cm. reddish brown, sometimes two mature sporophytes borne in one perichaetium; capsules pendent, obovoid to oblong-ovoid, 1.5–2.0 mm long, with short, distinct apophysis, mouth contracted when dry; exostome and endostome equal in length, 0.4–0.6 mm long; exostome teeth lanceolate, nearly smooth, with lamella; endostome segments folded; basal membrane high; cilia 2. Spores spherical, 20–25 µm in diameter, verrucose.
