Plants prostrate, up to 10 cm long. Stems pinnately branched, usually with numerous branches, 10–20 mm long, somewhat curved when dry, usually with flagelliform branchlets at ending; central strand slightly differentiated; pseudoparaphyllia shell-like. Stem leaves widely spreading or somewhat squarrose-recurved, nearly round, obtuse or broadly acute at apex, widely cordate at base; costae double, short, weak, usually not distinct; branch leaves smaller, broadly oblong, obtuse, ca. 0.8 mm × 0.7 mm, usually keeled when dry; median leaf cells linear, 40–50 µm × 4.0–4.5 mm, pitted; basal cells rectangular, partly incrassate; alar cells usually loosely arranged, rectangular. Dioicous. Perichaetia on main stems. Inner perichaetial leaves narrowly lanceolate, with piliform apex, up to 2.5 mm long; margins remotely spinulose-toothed. Setae up to 5 cm long, twisted when dry; capsules inclined or horizontal, oblong-cylindrical, asymmetric, 2.0–3.2 mm × 0.9–1.1 mm; opercula shortly rostrate; peristome double; exostome teeth orange-red, narrowly lanceolate, linear above, finely papillose, cross-striate below; endostome segments linear-lanceolate, keeled, as high as the teeth; cilia 2–3, nodulose.
