Plants mat-forming, light yellow, dark green to dark brown. Stems 3–5 cm long. Leaves ovate to oblong-lanceolate, 1.5–2.0 mm × 0.4–0.7 mm, broadly acute to abruptly acuminate, at times mucronate; costae double, strong, reaching leaf apex, protruding abaxially forming a spine or a lamella distally; laminal cells oval-hexagonal, 13–22 µm wide, moderately thick-walled, becoming smaller apically, rectangular and oblong basally, 22–35(–45) µm × 13–16 µm, unipapillose in dorsal and lateral leaves, often smooth in ventral leaves. Setae 1–2 cm long; capsules ovoid-cylindrical, 1.0–1.5 mm long. Spores 15–18 µm in diameter.
