Plants medium-sized to large, rather robust, pale yellowish green. Stems prostrate or somewhat ascending, ca. 3 cm long, pinnately or subpinnately branched, branches dense, ascending, rarely flattened, ca. 1 cm long; pseudoparaphyllia narrowly triangular- or broadly ovate-lanceolate. Stem leaves erect, rarely spreading, narrowly ovate- to broadly triangular-lanceolate, usually asymmetric, slenderly acuminate, sometimes twisted at apex, cordate at base, often excavate at basal margins, shortly decurrent, sometimes plicate; margins slightly recurved above, serrulate throughout; costae double, ca. 1/5 the leaf length; median leaf cells 60–70 µm × 4–5 µm, thick-walled, rarely porose; alar cells slightly differentiated, shortly rectangular or quadrate, thick-walled, the decurrent alar cells not clearly differentiated, sometimes rectangular; branch leaves narrowly ovate- to triangular-lanceolate, 1.4–1.7 mm × 0.3–0.5 mm, asymmetric, slenderly acuminate, often twisted at apex. Dioicous. Inner perichaetial leaves erect or curved above, broadly ovate-lanceolate, rarely plicate, usually twisted at apex, serrulate above, costae double, separate at base, rarely forked, ca. 1/3 the leaf length, median cells thick-walled, porose. Setae ca. 2 cm long, yellowish to reddish brown, mostly smooth; capsules horizontal, curved, ovoid to shortly cylindrical, 1.2–1.5 mm × 0.5–0.6 mm; opercula shortly rostrate. Spores 11–16 µm in diameter.
