2. Fontinalis hypnoides Hartm.   羽枝水藓   yu zhi shui xian
Handb. Skand. Fl. (ed. 4): 434. 1843. Type: Sweden.
 
Plants slender, elongate, light green to yellowish green, or dark green, slightly glossy, in loose tufts. Stems to 30 cm long, irregularly branched, sometimes with attenuate branches. Stem leaves distantly spaced, erect-patent, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 3.0–4.5 mm long, usually acute or broadly acuminate at the apex, plane or slightly conduplicate, decurrent at the base; margins entire or serrulate at the apex; upper cells elongate-rhombic; median cells linear-rhomboidal, 70–90 µm × 9–12 µm; alar cells inflated, shortly rectangular, brown; branch leaves similar to stem leaves, 2–3 mm long, rarely to 4 mm long. Perichaetial leaves rounded at the apex. Setae very short; capsules immersed, ovoid, ca. 2 mm long; peristome double; exostome teeth papillose, perforate at the base; endostome segments joined by the appendages. Spores 15–20 µm in diameter, smooth or finely papillose.
