Plants medium-sized, reddish brown, in dense tufts. Stems erect, to 2 cm high, rarely branched, sparsely foliate above, radiculose below. Leaves broadly elliptical or broadly obovate, plane, not undulate, narrowed and not decurrent at base, rounded-obtuse and apiculate at apex; margins entire, bordered by more than 3 rows of irregularly elongate-rhombic cells, not clearly porose; costae ending above mid-leaf; leaf cells regularly arranged, hexagonal, thin-walled. Dioicous. Setae solitary, 4–5 cm long; capsules cylindrical, ca. 6–8 mm long, horizontal.
