Plants medium-sized, ca. 1.5 cm high, bright green, not glossy, in loose or somewhat dense tufts. Stems erect, branched, sterile branches elongate, with numerous brownish rhizoids at base. Leaves broadly oblong-obovate, distinctly constricted at base, abruptly narrowed to a slender acumen; margins undulate, serrulate above; costa subpercurrent to percurrent; upper leaf cells oblong-hexagonal, lower cells shortly rectangular, thick-walled. Dioicous. Setae 5–14 cm long, yellowish; capsules with short urns, reddish brown, apophyses umbrellalike or nearly discoid, yellowish; opercula hemispheric, blunt; annuli none; peristome teeth inserted below the mouth, yellowish. Spores maturing in late spring or early summer.
