Description Shrubs, mostly epiphytic, glabrous. Leaves succulent, drying coriaceous, pet- iolate; stipules thin, caducous. Flowers often large, solitary, terminal; hypan- thium obovoid or cylindrical, the calycine cup absent, the lobes 2-5 or absent, caducous or persistent in fruit; corolla salverform or funnel shaped, the tube elongate, expanded toward the mouth, glabrous, the lobes 3-7, contorted in bud; stamens included; ovary 2-celled, the ovules numerous. Fruits capsular, narrowly oblong, or cylindrical, the 2 valves dehiscing septicidally; seeds imbricate, basally appendaged, bearing a distal tuft of hairs.
