Description Large spreading trees up to 40', DBH up to 3', bark rough dark brown. Leaves shiny, dark green, up to 2' x 0.75', reddish at base, veins light green. Flowers in clumps at end of branch, petals (4) white, sepals green, numerous prominent white stamens with pink tips and yellow anthers, pistil pink, sepals green, ovary inferior. Smell of honeysuckle. Fruit large, green, hard 1-seeded with fibrous woody casing, smooth outside, ca. 4" wide, sepals persistent. Vernacular name: Mpembeya.
Locality Coast on SE side of Anjouan.
