Description Terrestrial on steep bank; stems less than 1 m long; 6-10 cm diam.; cataphylls 29-50 cm long, persisting as a dense cluster of mostly straight fibers, red-brown; petiole scars to (?) diam.; petioles 100-174 cm long, 2.8-5 cm diam. at base, 1.2-2.3 cm diam. midway, 1.7 cm diam. at apex; geniculum 4 cm long, 2 cm diam., terete, obtusely narrowly and deeply sulcate, medium green, weakly glossy; blades 80-150 cm long, 50-111 cm wide; anterior lobe 60-109 cm long; posterier lobes 24-51 cm long, moderately coriaceous, dark green and semiglossy above, paler and weakly glossy below; midrib acute and paler above, round-raised, paler and 3-ribbed below; basal veins 8-13 pairs, 1st free to base, 5th-8th pair and higher fused 9-23 cm, acutely several ribbed; collective veins arising from one of the primary lateral veins between the base and middle of anterior lobe, mostly poorly loop-connected; primary lateral veins 6 per side, acute and paler below. Inflorescences erect-spreading; peduncle medium green and glossy, 1.5-2 cm diam. at base, to 59 cm long, bluntly acute and paler above; spathe pale green and matte outside, acutely raised somewhat darker veins rose-colored and glossy inside, 19 cm long, 10.5-13.5 cm around circumference; spadix 18-20 cm long, 2.0-2.8 cm diam., creamy white, matte tinged pink in apical 1/2, eventually matte pinkish throughout; stamens closely clustered, erect; pollen pale yellow.
Locality Along old road from Mindo to Tandayapa departing main asphalt road from Nanegalito to Dto. Quito just east of turn off to Mindo, 0.2 km from (north of) junction with main highway.
