Operculina pteripes (G. Don) O'Donell, Lilloa 23: 435. 1950; Calonyction pteripes G. Don.

Trepadoras perennes; tallos herbáceos al menos cerca del ápice, volubles, glabros. Hojas ovadas, 3–8 cm de largo, acuminadas en el ápice, cordadas en la base, enteras. Inflorescencias cimosas con 2–7 flores, pedúnculos lisos o angostamente alados; sépalos oblongos, 2–5 cm de largo, agudos a obtusos; corola hipocrateriforme, 6–7 cm de largo, rojo-rosada; estilo y estambres exertos, polen 3-colpado; estilo 1, estigma globoso, ovario 2-locular. Frutos operculados, comprimido-globosos, 3–4 cm de ancho, el cáliz acrescente, glabros; semillas 1–4, ovoides, glabras, negras.

Ocasional generalmente en matorrales en las zonas pacífica y norcentral; 0–950 m; fl oct–dic, fr nov–feb; Moreno 4830, Stevens 23195; México hasta el noroeste de Sudamérica. Género pantropical con 15–20 especies.
