Cosmibuena grandiflora (Ruiz & Pav.) Rusby, Bull. New York Bot. Gard. 4: 368. 1907; Cinchona grandiflora Ruiz & Pav.; Buena skinneri Oerst.; Cosmibuena skinneri (Oerst.) Hemsl.; C. ovalis Standl.

Plantas hasta 12 m de alto. Hojas elípticas a suborbiculares, 6.5–19.5 cm de largo y 3.6–16 cm de ancho, ápice agudo, base cuneada a aguda, nervios secundarios (3) 4–6 pares; pecíolos 5–40 mm de largo; estípulas 8–30 mm de largo. Flores 3–5 (9), pedicelos 5–30 mm de largo; limbo calicino 4–15 mm de largo, lobos ausentes o hasta 4 mm de largo; tubo corolino 58–90 mm de largo, lobos 15–35 mm de largo y 6–20 mm de ancho. Cápsulas 40–65 mm de largo y 6–13 mm de ancho; semillas 5–6 mm de largo.

Poco frecuente, en bosques generalmente estacionales, zona pacífica; 200–500 m; fl oct, fr feb; Neill 1113, Robleto 137; sur de Nicaragua a Bolivia.
