Plants very small, green to yellowish green, in gregarious tufts. Stems erect, simple or branched. Leaves curved to somewhat crisped when dry, erect-spreading when moist, linear from scarcely broader base, acute, moderately keeled-concave; costa single, strong, percurrent or nearly so; margins plane, entire; upper leaf cells quadrate to subquadrate, thick-walled; median cells subquadrate to short rectangular, thick-walled; basal cells short rectangular to rectangular, hyaline, thin-walled, usually with several rows of longer cells at the basal margins. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves larger than stem leaves. Setae elongate, yellowish, erect to suberect when dry, flexuous to cygneous when moist; capsules erect, yellowish, short cylindric, tapered at the base, smooth; annuli well-developed, consisting of thick-walled cells; peristome teeth linear-lanceolate, reddish brown, nearly smooth below, densely papillose above. Calyptrae narrowly mitrate, smooth. Spores small, spherical, smooth.
