general taxon notes:
Ectropotheciella, consisting of two species, sometimes is combined with a group of species in the genus Ectropothecium, which have papillose or prorate leaf cells. However, the peristome structure in these genera is so distinct that they should be kept separated. One species of Ectropotheciella is found in China from Hainan province and Taiwan. We were unable to locate any specimens. The description provided here is from the literature.
