Plants medium-sized to rather robust, glossy, in loose or dense mats. Stems prostrate, irregularly branched, with erect, thick, blunt branches. Stem and branch leaves similar, ovate-lanceolate, distinctly plicate, gradually acute at apex; margins usually plane, entire; costae absent; median leaf cells linear, smooth; alar cells quadrate to shortly rectangular, in a rather large group. Autoicous. Setae elongate, smooth; capsules erect, oblong-ovoid to shortly cylindrical; peristome double, inserted deeply below the mouth; exostome teeth lanceolate, cross-striolate at base, papillose above; endostome linear, often recurved. Calyptrae cucullate, smooth. Spores spherical, papillose.
