Plants robust, rigid, golden yellowish or brownish green, glossy, in dense interwoven mats. Stems prostrate, often more than 5 cm long, with 2–3 ascending secondary stems, not radiculose, densely and regularly pinnately branched; paraphyllia sometimes present on stems and branches; pseudoparaphyllia present at base of branches only, foliose, dentate; in stem cross section epidermal cells not inflated, outer cortical cells in 3–4 layers, thick-walled, medullar cells large; central strand not developed. Stem leaves and branch leaves remarkedly dimorphic; stem leaves 1.4–1.9 mm × 0.5–0.7 mm, falcate-secund, cordate-auriculate at base, gradually lanceolate upward, slenderly acuminate; margins entire; costae unequally double, up to midleaf or sometimes shorter; leaf cells linear, smooth, basal cells narrowly rectangular, usually yellowish brown; alar cells numerous, rounded quadrate, more or less homogeneous, yellowish brown. Dioicous. Setae elongate, reddish brown, twisted when dry; capsules suberect, oblong-ovoid; peristome typically hypnoid. Calyptrae not seen. Spores not seen.
