Plants small, glossy, in dense mats. Stems elongate and twisted, prostrate, irregularly or pinnately branched; pseudoparaphyllia foliose; central strand not developed. Stem leaves and branch leaves similar in shape, falcate- secund or circinate, often concave, narrowly oblong-ovate to rounded ovate-lanceolate, serrulate near apex, subentire below; costae short, double, or absent; leaf cells narrowly rhomboidal to linear, smooth or prorate; basal cells yellowish, inflated, rounded oval, hyaline. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves similar to the vegetative leaves. Setae slender, reddish, smooth or papillose above, 2.0–3.5 cm long; capsules horizontal or pendent, papillose at neck when mature, constricted below mouth; opercula slenderly rostrate; annuli not differentiated; exothecial cells not collenchymatous; peristome double; exostome teeth papillose above, cross-striate below, outer surface furrowed; endostome segments keeled, perforate along median line; basal membrane high; cilia 2, nodulose. Calyptrae cucullate to campanulate, covering large part of capsules, smooth, lobular at base. Spores small, finely papillose.

The genus consists of 20 species in the world. Only one species is recognized in China.
