Bryol. Jav. 1: 156. 1861. Bartramia secunda Dozy & Molk., Pl. Jungh. 3: 332. 1854. Type: Indonesia.
Plants medium-sized to rather large, slender, soft, green to yellowish green, not glossy, in dense tufts or compact. Stems soft, erect, 2–8 cm long, with dense, brownish rhizoids. Leaves erect-patent when dry, curved-spreading when moist, narrowly triangular-lanceolate to lanceolate, 1.0–1.5 mm long, long-acuminate at apex, usually secund; margins plane, serrulate above mid-leaf, entire below; costae excurrent, often ending in denticulate awns; leaf cells linear-rhomboidal, thick-walled, with papillae at upper cell ends; basal cells rectangular, more or less smooth. Dioicous. Setae 3–4 cm long; capsules spherical, inclined to horizontal, orange; peristome not seen. Spores not seen.
