Plagiothecium denticulatum var. obtusifolium differs from P. denticulatum var. denticulatum by its short, somewhat julaceous branches and obtuse leaf apices. It was treated as a synonym of P. denticulatum by Ireland (1969) and Ignatov and Afonina (1992).
