Plants slender, rather large, in loose tufts. Primary stems and infertile branches prostrate, 3–5 cm long, sparsely foliate, with dense rhizoids; fertile branches erect, 2–4 cm high, radiculose below, densely foliate above. Leaves crisped when dry, spreading when moist, weakly undulate, ovate-ligulate or oblong, narrowed and not decurrent at base, obtuse, apiculate at apex; margins bordered by 3–5 rows of elongate cells, dentate with a single tooth above mid-leaf; costae percurrent; infertile branch leaves smaller, rounded-ovate, margins nearly entire; leaf cells rather large, 30–50 µm wide, rounded-hexagonal, walls slightly thickened at corners. Synoicous. Setae solitary or clustered, 1.5–3.0 cm long; capsules ovoid-cylindrical, ca. 2.5–3.0 mm × 1.1–1.6 mm, inclined or pendulous.
