Plants medium-sized to rather large, whitish green to yellowish green, in dense tufts. Stems erect or suberect, 2–5 cm high, simple or branched, with dense brownish rhizoids at base. Leaves in 8 ranks, crisped when dry, erect-spreading when moist, linear-lanceolate, hardly sheathing at base, 0.5–0.6 mm wide, gradually narrowed toward apex, 3–5 mm long; margins serrate, single-toothed; costae percurrent, dentate at back in the upper part; upper leaf cells unistratose, bistratose at margins, shortly rectangular, thick-walled, papillose on both sides; basal cells irregularly rectangular, smooth, hyaline. Autoicous. Setae straight, reddish brown, 8–15 mm long; capsules inclined, spherical, asymmetric, with small, oblique mouth, longitudinally furrowed; opercula low conic; peristome double; exostome teeth lanceolate, reddish brown, papillose; endostome segments shorter than the teeth, pale yellowish; basal membrane low; cilia absent. Spores yellowish brown, 15–19 µm in diameter, coarsely papillose.
