Plants small, 0.7–1.0 cm high, yellowish green or reddish brown, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple or branched, radiculose below. Leaves curved-contorted when dry, erect-spreading when moist, ovate-lanceolate, narrowly acute at the apex; margins entire, recurved nearly throughout; costa percurrent; upper leaf cells quadrate to hexagonal, rather thin-walled, densely multi-papillose, mostly C-shaped papillae, a few extreme apical cells smooth; basal cells irregularly rectangular, smooth. Dioicous. Setae ca. 8 mm long; capsules erect, cylindric, reddish brown.
